2011 Annual Message
PIC’s commitment to our neighborhood is strong.
Every Monday and Friday morning you’ll find strollers parked outside PIC by moms, dads, nannies and grannies who bring their little ones for a couple of hours of play with other neighborhood families. During playgroup, the dad who is at home with his toddler picks up some parenting tips on tempers and “twos.” A grandmother who speaks only Chinese listens as a young mother translates instructions for today’s craft activity. Across the room, 3-year-olds take turns wiggling through a bright, red tube, lining up to do it again (and again, and again)! Amid the laughter, they are actually learning cooperation, patience and self-control – qualities that will help them be successful not only in school, but in life.
PIC’s commitment to our neighborhood is growing.
During the summer, families flock to our Thursday night storytime sessions in nearby Clark Park. In October, children make dozens of scarecrows at our annual Scarecrow Festival. Just weeks ago, the PIC Family Book Fest filled the nearby Rotunda with children and parents who came to read stories, sing songs, learn to make books, or choose a few “new” tales from the free Book Swap table. These events are bright threads in the community fabric that we tightly weave each day through our work at PIC.
Join us in our commitment to children, families and community by giving to our Annual Fund, your gift will help us continue to provide these special programs and maintain the quality child care we offer everyday.
As an overwhelming body of research confirms, a child’s capacity for learning is set by age 5. Your support for PIC is not only an investment in a caring community today, but a stronger future for all our children.
Best wishes for a peaceful and healthy New Year.
Warm regards,

Cynthia Roberts
