PIC Plant Sale
Dear Friends and Families,
Many of you have sent messages asking about our annual PIC Plant Sale.
This year, we will not be having the plant sale and will be focusing our time on the celebration of PIC's 40th anniversary.
This was a decision made for a number of reasons:
Our Family Survey results to questions asked about the plant sale clearly indicated that from many in our internal community, there was too much of a focus on families reaching a "quota" in selling the plants. We tried to balance this feedback with the knowledge that without this "push," we could not reach our fundraising goal.
For years we received a significant discount from our plant vendors that contributed greatly to the amount of money raised, through your participation, for our tuition assistance fund. In more recent years, the rising costs, and considerable efforts needed from volunteers and staff have lessened the financial benefits of this event.
There are now many more stores and organizations selling plants in West Philly and we have heard from many that the need to purchase plants from PIC is simply not as great as it may have been in previous years.
We need many, many volunteers to make the plant sale work and we have had declining numbers of volunteers in recent years.
The plant sale has been a terrific way that PIC connected with our West Philadelphia neighbors, friends, and past families.
While we have put the plant sale on hold for this year, we will take some time to again look at the long-term sustainability of the event, as well as look at other possible opportunities that may serve a similar purpose.
This spring, please join us
