The annual Spring Plant Sale held on May 4 and 5 was a great success, raising nearly $40,000 to help PIC award scholarship assistance. Thanks to everyone - dedicated volunteers, loyal customers, and PIC staff - who helped us have a wonderful event.
This year, we took pre-orders online for the first time making ordering easy! With more than 60 volunteers, we filled over 650 orders from our amazing selection of annuals, perennials, herbs, fruit and veggies before we opened the doors to the community on Friday and Saturday. We had great foot traffic and beat our day-of sales from last year by over $1,000! We also had an amazing array of goodies at the Bake Sale, which was organized by PIC Teacher Jeanette Bennett-Lee.
We continued our tradition of holding a Friday satellite sale in front of the Penn Bookstore. We want to thank the University of Pennsylvania for providing this great venue and the Bookstore for offering a discount to anyone who bought a plant.
We also had strong community promotional support and want to thank our friends at Beijing, Keswick Cycle, and Pasqually's Pasta & Pizza for helping us tell our neighbors about the sale.
Special thanks to the 2012 Plant Sale Committee: Co-Chairs Mathilda Edmunds and Jim Wilson, Lisa Falcone, Kirstin Knox, Rachel Kolber, Laura Line, Cindy Roberts, Sarah Smathers, and Lisa Weidman.
And finally, a big thank you to the entire PIC community—families, staff, and volunteers—for making this a great year and helping the PIC Scholarship Fund grow! With your help, PIC will continue to help families give their children the quality child care they deserve.
Thank you and happy planting to you all!
