Donations for Injured Wildlife Delivered!
During the last week of January, the Starlights put out a call to PIC families for items to help these injured animals as part of a Day of Service project for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Last Friday, eight After Schoolers from the Starlight classroom delivered one large box of donated items to help the animals at the Schuylkill Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic.
The After Schoolers traveled with PIC teachers Linda Delenick and Maya Highland to bring the donated paper towels, trash bags, bleach, receiving blankets, detergent, and gauze bandages they had collected.
Each child carried an item inside the clinic where they were greeted by Rick Schubert, the wildlife rehabilitator. Everyone had a chance to see the incubators that are used to care for injured wildlife. Thay also visited with a turkey vulture and a talking crow.
Before leaving, the group was shown a small barn where they found two playful goats. While not wild animals, these two had been abandoned on the property one night.
According to Linda, "This was a wonderful collection for our first year and I look forward to more Day of Service projects in the future."
