How to Talk to Kids about Sexuality

Wednesday, November 29 (8:30-9:30)
Location to be announced

When is the right time to start talking to kids about their bodies? The answer is: now!

This workshop will help parents, teachers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or anyone with children under 11 in their lives, figure out how to approach this tricky subject. Together we'll explore any discomfort that we as adults feel about this topic. We'll examine our own values and goals, and then we'll delve into the details: we'll learn strategies for teaching kids about all the different body parts and that their bodies belong to only them; the difference between public and private; how to help kids pay attention to the cues of the people around them; and more! We'll end by talking about how to use teachable moments as a more effective alternative to "the talk."

Conversation led by Roadrunners teacher Isy Abraham-Raveson. Isy has a degree in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Williams College and is now pursuing a Master's in Sexuality Education at Widener University. She has taught sex ed to middle and high school students in Newark, NJ and Montclair, NJ. and has led workshops on the topic at CHOP.
