In Fall 2007, PIC launched an ambitious fundraising campaign in memory of Marni Sweet, a visionary and dedicated child care professional who was executive director of PIC for 25 years. Marni was lost to brain cancer just months after setting a strategic course for the center's expansion.
The recent $1 million Sweet Dreams Campaign helped us realize Marni's dream to expand the center. With the opening of the Sweet Building in April 2010, we have turned to plans for more improvements, which include making our outdoor playgrounds accommodate 50 more children while actually reducing the impact on the green spaces around us. We also are planning much-needed upgrades in the Spruce Building, PIC's longtime home and our After School Center, so that all PIC’s children can play and learn in up-to-date classrooms.
This expansion has created a dedicated space for a children's library, a parent resource center, and a large, well equipped teacher resource room.
